Introduction

To encourage stimulate students’ creativity and enhance their interest in solving daily problems with emerging technologies, Corporate Tech Academy Network (CTAN) will organise the “Hong Kong VPET Competition for Secondary School 2023/24”. Through the competition, students will be able to know more about Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) and apply their understanding to enhance the community.  

The competition invites all full-time secondary schools to participate in groups. Through visits, communications, learning and group cooperation, students will be able to deepen their understanding of VPET and CTAN. Prototype creation by students will be displayed in shopping malls and public areas so that public will know more about VPET activities, e.g. career development of students, VPET development and sustainability of talents in different industries.

Eligibility

• Full-time Form 1 to Form 5 students

Participation

• It is a school-based competition. Each school can send a maximum of 2 teams, which must be approved by the principal/teacher.
• Students from the same school can participate in teams, with 2-5 members per team, one student will be the team leader, and each student cannot participate in more than one team.
• Each team can only have one submission. The same proposal cannot be submitted more than once.

• Site visits / workshops, including power industry, aviation industry, construction industry, railway industry and gas industry, will be conducted in March 2024 for students to have a deeper understanding of VPET industry.

Competition Details

Submission for Preliminary Selection

• Teams are encouraged to apply emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT) and other smart technology, to solve daily life problems.
• Each team is required to submit 6-10 PowerPoint slides (within 10MB) or a short video clip (within 4 minutes) to HKIAA on or before 31 January 2024 (Wed). The submission should introduce the concept of “Shaping a Smart Community with VPET Skills”. Teams are not required to present during the Preliminary Selections stage.

Submission for Final Selection

The final competition will be held at the HKPC Building on 27 April 2024 (Sat). The finalist teams will present their proposal with PowerPoint files and prototype creation. They will be required to submit a full set of presentation files with 6 multi-angle photos of prototype creation to HKIAA on or before 8 April 2024 (Mon) [Updated].

Resources for Finalists (Details will be announced later)

Finalist teams are entitled to:

• Prototype creation subsidy (the upper limit for each group is HKD2,500).
• Free usage of the "Innospace (知創空間) - Inno Prototype (創客工場)" of Hong Kong Productivity Council for prototype creation. The workshop is well equipped with 3D printers and laser cutting machines. Professional instructors are on standby in the field for assistance.
• Industry Visits (including the power industry, aviation industry, construction industry, railway industry and gas industry) to deepen their understanding of VPET's industry.

Competition Process

Adverse Weather Arrangement

If Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signed is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory on the Final Competiton on 27 April from 6:00 am onwards and before 8:00am, the Final Competition will be cancelled. The latest arrangement will be announced in due course.
