Hong Kong VPET Competition for Secondary Schools 2024/25 and VPET Project Exhibition

Introduction

To encourage and stimulate students’ creativity, enhance their interest in solving daily problems and promote green and smart living with emerging technologies, Corporate Tech Academy Network (CTAN) will organise the “Hong Kong VPET Competition for Secondary School 2024/25”. Through the competition, students will be able to know more about Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) and apply their understanding to enhance the community.  

The competition invites all full-time secondary schools to participate in groups. Through industrial visits, communications, learning and group cooperation, students will be able to deepen their understanding of VPET and CTAN. Prototype creation by students will be displayed in shopping malls and public areas so that public will know more about VPET activities, e.g. career development of students, VPET development and sustainability of talents in different industries.

Eligibility

  • Full-time Form 1 to Form 5 students

Participation

  • It is a school-based competition. Each school can send a maximum of 2 teams, which must be approved by the principal or teacher.
  • Students from the same school can participate in teams, with 2-5 members per team, one student will be the team leader, and each student cannot participate in more than one team.
  • Each team can only have one submission. The same proposal cannot be submitted more than once.

Application

  • Interested parties should form team and click here for application, or send the application form to tti@towngas.com on or before  23 December 2024 (Mon).
  • Industrial visits / workshops, including power industry, aviation industry, construction industry, railway industry and gas industry, will be conducted in March 2025 for students to have a deeper understanding of VPET industry.

Competition Details

Submission for Preliminary Selection
  • Teams are encouraged to apply emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT) and other smart technology, to solve daily life problems and promote green and smart living.
  • Each team is required to submit 6-10 PowerPoint slides (within 10MB) or a short video clip (within 4 minutes) to Towngas Training Institute on or before 3 February 2025 (Mon). The submission should introduce the concept of “Shaping a Green and Smart Living with VPET Skills”. Teams are not required to present during the Preliminary Selections stage.
Submission for Final Selection

The final competition will be held at the HKPC Building on 26 April 2025 (Sat). The finalist teams will present their proposal with PowerPoint files and prototype creation. They will be required to submit a full set of presentation files with 6 multi-angle photos of prototype creation to Towngas Training Institute on or before 28 March 2025 (Fri).

Resources for Finalists (Details will be announced later)

Finalist teams are entitled to:

  • Prototype creation subsidy (the upper limit for each group is HKD2,500).
  • Free usage of the "Innospace (知創空間) - Inno Prototype (創客工場)" of Hong Kong Productivity Council for prototype creation. The workshop is well equipped with 3D printers and laser cutting machines. Professional instructors are on standby in the field for assistance.
  • Industrial visits, including the power industry, aviation industry, construction industry, railway industry and gas industry, to deepen their understanding of VPET's industry.
